Dear 5th Grade Parents,
Today your student will be bringing home their Independent Study Project (and your homeroom teacher should be emailing you too). Please read over the project requirements!
The project is due Friday, January 1. However, we suggest that you secure books for research 1-2 weeks at least in advance. Your student is expected to research, summarize notes, write a paper, design a poster, and give an oral presentation. The earlier they can start reading and researching their Historical Figure.
If you and your student find there is not enough material to research their historical figure, please email your homeroom teacher as soon as possible to make a character change!
We HIGHLY recommend checking out books for your student BEFORE Independent Study Week arrives (January 17). The earlier they can start their research, the better.
Please keep in mind that not all online sources are equal. Wikipedia can be a great place to gather a bird's eye view to familiarize your student with key points about their figure, but should not be the internet source used for actual research.
